Spencer Thurlow is a poet and translator living in Boston. His work has appeared in The Georgia Review, Tokyo Poetry Journal, Granta, The Worcester Review, and others. He served as poet laureate of West Tisbury, Mass. from 2018-22. He co-translated Sonic Peace by Kiriu Minashita, (Phoneme Media, 2017) with Eric Hyett, which was shortlisted for the American Literary Translators Association’s 2018 National Translation Award, as well as the Lucien Stryk Prize for Asian Translation. His latest translation with Hyett, Is It Poetry? by Hirata Toshiko, is forthcoming from Deep Vellum Press and has been awarded the 2021-22 William F. Sibley Memorial Subvention Prize for Japanese Translation.
